3× volume, 99.99% automation — rebuilding the engine that moves the money

A European payment provider's settlement & pricing stack, rebuilt for scale — and put through a national regulator's audit.

The situation. A European payment provider (multi-country PayFac) serving e-commerce merchants, growing fast across several markets — with a settlement and pricing engine sized for an earlier era. Growth was on the roadmap; a national regulator's audit was too. The engine had to absorb both.

The leak. Every settlement step that touches a human costs money, adds risk, and rehearses the next audit finding. The stack couldn't triple its volume by tripling its people — and the audit would examine exactly the processes everyone was too busy to fix.

What I did. Led settlement & pricing as a special project, then as Product Owner — Data & Ecosystem: designed the multi-country engine (cross-border logic, currencies, pricing rules) aligned with Risk & Compliance requirements; acted as one of the leads during the national regulator's settlement-stack audit, translating requirements into concrete engine logic and evidence; drove end-to-end automation of settlement & pricing to a 99.99% straight-through target.

3× volume growth — tens of millions in MSV 99.99% straight-through automation ops team unchanged in size national regulator audit passed

If you're planning a growth push, entering a new market, or have an audit on the horizon — this is the risk I've already de-risked on someone else's tab. The settlement engine is the most expensive system to replace late, and the cheapest to review early.
